Linda Del Lewis was founder and worldwide chairman of KEYTIME®, Inc., a company that empowered 100’s of thousands to quickly touch-type since 1987. She was responsible for driving new long-term education and growth initiatives, developing earnings opportunities for franchisees and advancing KEYTIME® as the global standard for all keyboarding layouts.
During her distinguished 30+ year career at KEYTIME®, Ms. Lewis persuaded Microsoft® to build both the two-handed and single-handed Dvorak layout into the operating system. Ms. Lewis custom-designed the single-handed Dvorak layout for Apple found in the system file folder. Ms. Lewis trained NASA® employees on the Dvorak layout. Her clients included Boeing®, Microsoft®, Safeco®, Intel®, and 50+ school districts.
As the world’s foremost authority on keyboarding, ANSI (American National Standard Institute) hired Ms. Lewis to officially standardize the Dvorak layout. Ms. Lewis was also called upon as an expert witness. Additionally, Ms. Lewis developed an award-winning program to teach 4–9-year-old children to type quickly with fun songs and games.
Ms. Lewis was a passionate advocate for customers to help make consumers’ lives healthier and better. She was committed to KEYTIME®’s five core values of trust, respect, belief, humility and integrity.
In 2014, Ms. Lewis co-authored Crazy Impact with world-renowned Rick Justus and Tom Ziglar. She authored KEYTIME® Skillbuilder Type Faster Fast, a revolutionary method to quickly learn keyboarding. Ms. Lewis served on the board TYPEdance™ Project, a non-profit organization to help disadvantaged children to learn to type quickly. She had been featured in the Wall Street Journal, Blind Radio, Seattle Times, Puget Sound Business Journal and many others. She was an international speaker, trainer and educator.
Born in Portland, Oregon, Ms. Lewis received a BSS at the University of Oregon and a master’s degree in Education for Computers in Education from the University of Washington. Ms. Lewis passed away in February 2020. Her legacy continues through The KEYTIME® Method, which is still being taught today!
Unique * Innovative * Effective
About KEYTIME®
Atter 30+ years of success, the secret is out! KEYTIME® is an innovative and effective method to learn touch typing in a short period of time. It is revolutionary in its teaching methodology, which is based on learning theory, instead of rote memory and key placement. Our method allows students to learn letter location - without looking - in about an hour during the first session! It's fast, easy and fun! Hundreds of thousands of students have learned how to type in one hour (or less) and improve speed and accuracy in about 10 hours. The key to our proven success is our unique multi-modal, language-based method focusing on individual learning style, background and health. More now than ever, proper keyboarding is becoming essential for productivity and health. Unique to our method is the focus on ergonomics and eliminating bad habits. We view these as preventative measures against injuries such as carpal tunnel syndrome, back problems, neck discomfort, eye strain, and body stress issues as they relate to keyboarding. Keyboarding includes ergonomics, key location, speed, and accuracy. When using our portable Skillbuilder® Learning Kit, students can hone these skills, practice virtually anywhere and gauge their own progress. Our courses and typing method are suitable for adults, children through high school, anyone who is just learning to type, and those who have mastered keyboarding, but wish to improve their touch-typing skills. Our classes are appropriate for students of all abilities including those with special needs, ADHD, dyslexia, dysgraphia, and those needing single-hand options. Know, with KEYTIME® every student can Type Faster, Fast!
Type Faster: Saving time is vital. KEYTIME® is dedicated to helping students save time by learning to touch-type in a fast, fun and easy way! The skills learned on the first day, of any of our courses, would average about 6 weeks in a traditional typing program. Our classes are intentionally kept to a one-week period (or less) with most sessions being held on consecutive days. This allows for time on task, in a controlled setting, with few distractions and provides an environment for reinforcing the new skill in a manner that might not be available elsewhere. It allows students to practice and apply their new skill. Most of our students can walk out the first day, after a two-hour session, knowing how to touch-type. They are able to start applying their new skill immediately. Proficiency comes with practice and application. Success has to be seen and felt. Why many other programs fail - students cannot see their progress fast enough, which translates to discouragement and leads to not practicing. Positive reinforcement is built into our method whether in a class, through self study, or online. Our system is set up so that students are actively involved in their own learning and can monitor their success as frequently as they wish. Throughout the learning process, they are encouraged to celebrate their successes, not only from the instructor, but also through charting their own progress. You can do it! Positive reinforcement sets students on a pathway toward greater success and motivates them to trust that they can achieve their goals. Our classes and materials provide a variety of motivation aids to support student learning: Visualization techniques, muscle memory exercises, and real-world examples. Our staff offer tips to help students find ways to succeed and not set themselves up for failure. Students are encouraged to contact us after their course to let us know how they're doing or if they're having any issues. Our care for our students does not end on the last day of class. At KEYTIME®, we believe that every person can learn to type faster.
Type Faster, Fast! Experienced typists, who have mastered touch-typing, benefit from our program by learning how to increase speed, finesse their skills for accuracy, and increase their word per minute. Students learn how to group letters using the English language to quicken typing speed and create a new faster flow. Our classes are ideal for eliminating bad habits and learning to incorporate ergonomics for healthier habits. We help students determine realistic goals, including how to get to their handwriting speed and faster, based on their performance and dexterity speed. Students who have completed a KEYTIME® course can take advantage of tutoring and class extension offerings. Dvorak is a layout built for speed and accuracy. The standard layout is for two-handed keyboarding; the most commonly used letters are on the home row, including all the vowels! This keyboard is generally easier to learn than Qwerty, especially for those with learning disabilities. There are also two single-hand layouts: Right-hand and Left-hand. These layouts are designed to keep the most commonly used letters centralized for ease of use. Single-hand typists can learn to keyboard more comfortably and with greater efficiency than if they were using a standard Qwerty keyboard as a one-handed typist. The single-hand layout is also beneficial for those who need to multi-task (e.g. police officers and healthcare professionals). Benefits of typing faster include savings to businesses and gains in personal time. The amount of time on tasks is lessened, which helps reduce backlogs and potentially saves on overtime. For instance, an efficient data entry professional, who inputs data 90% of the month, can increase their output approximately 20 words per minute. Owners, partners, managers, and employees alike enjoy less work-related stress when tasks are quickly and easily done, and more personal time is gained. We know that time is a precious commodity, and we wholly believe that The KEYTIME® Method is the best method to help you type faster, fast!
2020 and Beyond! In mid-October 2020, the proprietary rights for KEYTIME® were transferred to Sinclaire A., who worked with Linda for close to 15 years as a certified KEYTIME® instructor and Operations Manager. Classes have been ongoing since then. Still Seattle based. Still going strong!
We still expect everyone who uses our program to: Get typing fast. Have more personal time. Get busy doing other things. Enjoy new found freedom. Live more fully. Type faster, FAST with KEYTIME®!
